After hours of chanting, chatting, and drumming,
word circulated that Nader had been kicked out, despite his posessing a
ticket. The protesters breached a barricade and sat blocking one lane of
the access road.
Police horses pushed people back. I was
shoved by a cop, and knocked down by a horse, but the police soon yielded
one side of the divided street The boys in black held the opposite lanes
open. I had asked the equestrian police earlier whether a photo strobe
would upset the critters.
Several protesters were bloodied and more
were pepper maced. About 16 arrests were made. Eventually, the protesters
agreed to leave peacefully and the police agreed to release the arrested.
The Injured were treated by volunteers at the scene. Some were sent to
the hospital. Volunteer legal observers made reports on the police beatings.
